Listening to the wisdom of the body and carefully tending to desire, magic and thriving are my guiding directive principles. These principles inform my dancetheater style as well as the integrative work I offer in my private bodywork practice.
Born, raised and educated in The Netherlands, I have been based in New York City for almost 25 years and have worked here for most of my professional dancetheater career.
In that time I have had the pleasure of being a long term co-creator in the companies of several inspiring front women: Jennifer Muller, Susan Marshall, Tiffany Mills and, currently, Jane Comfort.
With these companies I have created, performed and taught nationally and internationally, and appeared on film.
After an audition in NYC in the late '90s and a subsequent invite to Wuppertal, Pina Bausch welcomed me to attend rehearsals and performances and to take company class with Tanztheater Wuppertal whenever I was near, resulting in me frequenting Wuppertal and following the company to 5 different countries for the last 10 years of Pina's life, an experience which greatly influences my dancetheater work.
Branching further into my own choreography for the last few years, I have presented shorter works at showcases in varied settings and sections of my most recent, combined live-dance and video production Not Meant To Be/Solo (Twinless?) about Vanishing Twin Syndrome, in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Tuscany, Italy and researched it further during a residency in Malmö, Sweden.
In the Netherlands I received my BFA at what is now Fontys Dance Academy (formerly Dansacademie Brabant) and continued studies as a guest student at CodeArts (formerly Rotterdam Dance Academy), interning at Raz, Introdans and Djazzex and performing with Feri de Geus, Wies Merkx and Herman van Veen amongst others.
I am also an active member of the International Interdisciplinary Artists Consortium (curated by Peter Sciscioli), a network of creators and producers working across disciplines and cultures, with whom I have taught and performed work.
I have taught master classes in contemporary dance and repertory to high school students and at colleges and professional companies around the U.S., and dance, yoga and reflexology internationally.
My body-oriented practices are ongoing, studying the body offers guaranteed inspiration, and I continue to do so alone and in classes, abroad and at home.
Please stay tuned for a new website featuring my healing practices...
I have had a private bodywork practice for over 20 years, offering reflexology, integrative body-mind-spirit yoga and Flower Essence work.
I am a nationally certified reflexologist with over 500 hours of training, a nationally certified teacher through Yoga Alliance (YA-500), a certified healer through chakra expert Anodea Judith's Sacred Centers and have studied Flower Essences with the late Steve Johnson (Alaskan Essences) and with Jane Bell (Hawaiian Essences).
